Director Biography - Daniel Loewenthal

Daniel Loewenthal is an experienced filmmaker, producer, and director. His career began as an editor, starting in documentaries with Maysles Films. Loewenthal has a strong storytelling talent that found an easy expression in feature films and documentaries and quickly became known as a long-form editor. He has over 50 film credits as editor or supervising editor among them Steven King's "Silver Bullet" for Paramount, "Missing in Action" released by MGM, "Hard Choices" at the 1985 Sundance Film Festival, "Voices in WarTime," a history of war poetry, at the Palm Springs Film Festival and "Ice", prize-winning short at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival.


He recently produced and directed “Power to Heal: Medicare and the Civil Rights Revolution” for PBS screened nationally. He won a Telly Award for producing “Purple Reign” which chronicles the history of the Holy Cross college basketball. He is finishing “Big House”, a documentary he produced and directed about Clarence (Big House) Gaines, an outstanding black college basketball coach from Winston-Salem.With his partner Roberta Friedman the pair produced "Cosmopolis: 49 Waltzes for the World", the series based on the composer John Cage’s score “49 Waltzes for the Five Boroughs,” which took them to cities including New York, Milan, Beijing and Detroit installed in both galleries and festivals. Among their other collaborative projects are “The Music In You” a documentary about prodigy girl musicians for Mattel that was distributed worldwide and the television series “Here Family!” about transgender and LGBT families.
